the "Big Boy" tub

Tyler has slowly been outgrowing his ducky blow up tub. Mommy hasn't found a suitable replacement and thinks we may just transition him into the "Big Boy" tub. Tyler has been in the "Big Boy" tub before, but had mommy with him. This was the very first time he did it by himself. Surprisingly, he did really really well. The only thing he seemed upset about was that his toys kept floating away and he didn't know how to get them. For whatever reason (probably good for us), he refuses to stand in the tub. He'll just sit there. Now that he's heavier, it's getting a bit harder to lift him while sitting to wash his bum. :)

Mariachi Tyler!

A week or 2 ago, we had dinner with some friends at one of our favorite Mexican restaurants, Mexico Lindo. Tyler's been there many times before, but this was the very first time the Mariachi Group stopped by our table to sing. I'm not sure what Tyler thought of them ... but his eyes didn't leave them the entire time they were singing.

Tyler's favorite toy

Tyler's favorite toys by far are still balls. Any type of ball, doesn't matter. We have all sorts ...a basketball, football, soccer ball, rubber ball, and those plastic ones. He carries them around, puts them in the hoop, throws them EVERYWHERE, and has even started trying to bounce them on the floor. Mommy has tried to teach Tyler to catch the ball, but he hasn't quite grasped the concept.

Tyler's thing for boxes

Looks like Tyler has a thing for boxes. It doesn't even have to be one that he can fit into. Mommy gave him a cereal box and he was very happy. If you listen carefully, you can even hear cereal in it. LOL

Stacking and nesting blocks

Mommy got Tyler blocks that can be both stacked and nested. After showing Tyler how to play with them a few times, he actually tried on his own. He gets frustrated occasionally and will throw the blocks, but for the most part he'll get it.

Tyler's glasses

One of Tyler's gave his everyone in his class a pair of glasses. At first he wouldn't let us put them on him, but after mommy tried them on ... he had to try too. It was pretty cool ... he actually played for a good 5 minutes with them on. Mommy tried to video as much as she could, but Tyler moves so quickly ... it's getting much harder to keep up.

Chatting with himself in the mirror

I think Tyler is now aware that it is his reflection in the mirror. He gets excited when he sees himself and often talks.

Dada! (finally!)

Tyler has finally mastered saying Dada! Unlike what most books and people said, Tyler said Mama first. It took a quite sometime before he could pronounce Dada. Now it says it over and over and over again.

Jingle Bells card

Tyler got a card that plays Jingle Bells from Grandma Jenny. For a while now, it's been "hidden", but just the other day Tyler found it and played with it. He doesn't even listen to the entire song. Just keeps opening and closing it.

Tyler loves to babble although he's not yet one with the words. At least not words that we can understand!

A couple of words that we do understand are

Mama
Dada
BowWow
Uh oh (usually said when something falls on the floor. will throw things on the floor just to say it)
MumMum (for food/eating)
Nana (for banana)

He has a better understanding of words and some of the ones that he knows and recognizes are:

  1. ears (will point to his ears)
  2. hair (will tug on his or mommy's hair)
  3. eyes (although he points to other people's eyes rather than his own)
  4. feet (will point to or lift feet)
  5. shoes (will point at them if wearing them, if not will look for shoes. his or ours)
  6. belly button (he knows mommy’s and will lift her shirt to see it)
  7. ball
  8. balloon
  9. banana
  10. lights (will point at the light, lamp, etc ...)
  11. milk
  12. bye bye (depends who is asking, will wave with hand)
  13. basket (will put ball in basketball hoop)
  14. bath
  15. up stairs (if you tell him to go up stairs, he will)
  16. airplane (knows to look up into the sky)
  17. moon (knows to look up into the sky)
  18. elmo
  19. high five (will high five)
  20. fire engine (has a toy that he recognizes)
  21. yay (will clap hands)
  22. hug (will come over for a snuggle, not really spreading his arms just yet)
  23. kiss (will lean face towards yours more so with nose rather than lips. if he does use lips, it will be WIDE open!)
  24. splash (if in bath tub or swimming pool, will splash arms)
  25. sit down
  26. nose/mouth (he often gets these 2 confused, but they are close enough right?)
  27. Tyler (if you ask him where’s Tyler he points at himself)
  28. fish (in our living room, he will point at the fish tank)
  29. Tigger (from Winnie the Pooh)
  30. giraffe
  31. monkey

He signs for more and uses it also for want. For example, if he is eating and runs out of what he's eating, he'll sign for more. If he isn't eating, but sees you eating, he'll point at what you are eating and then sign for more. This is something he learned on his own and it has been quite helpful to us. Mommy has been trying eat, all done and please ... but he hasn't yet gotten them.

Cereal and Milk

Tyler's newest thing is trying to feed himself with a spoon. He's not very coordinated just yet ... but is willing to practice and make the biggest messes for mommy to clean up. Instead of "scooping" up the food, Tyler thrashes the spoon in the bowl causing the milk to splash everywhere! It's a cute sight to see. When he lets mommy touch the spoon, she fills it with some cereal and milk and lets Tyler feed himself. I'd say 70% of the time he will get something in his mouth. The rest of the times, he turns the spoon too much and it all falls down.

Peanut Butter Sandwich

For a few days, mommy gave Tyler the smallest tastes of peanut butter just to be sure that he wasn't allergic. This made Tyler mad because he really really liked the peanut butter and didn't understand why mommy wouldn't initially give him more, even if he signed for more.

But after a week of this ... mommy finally made him is very own PB sandwich. Tyler LOVED it.

Here he is eating and smiling! :)

Cell Phone

Courtesy of Grandma Jenny, Tyler got his very own REAL cell phone. He has 3 other toy ones, but those are nothing compared to this new one. I don't know how he knows ... but he knows this one is real. He loves pushing the buttons. Although he refuses to put it up to his ear. With headsets nowadays and text messaging, I don't think he sees us with the phone to our ear that often.

BTW, doesn't he look Oh So Cute in his overalls!?!?!

Tyler's Boo Boo

A week or 2 a go, Tyler fell and hit is nose on one of his plastic car toys. He cried for a good 2 - 3 minutes. Tears streaming down his face. But I'd say ... 10 minutes or so afterwards ... he forgot that it ever happened. There was no bleeding or bruising at first ... but the next day, you could definitely tell that he fell.

I tried to take a few pictures of it. It's rather hard to see, but with my point and shoot camera (i was too lazy to use the one with the Macro) it was the best I could do.

And it's baaack!

Tyler's daycare called on Monday to report that Tyler was running a slight fever of 100.5. There were a few things mommy thought that could attribute to this fever. His recently vaccinations, his teething, or he was sick.

Just to be safe she picked him up early and took him to the doctor. What a surprise! An ear infection! Tyler hasn't had one of those in about 5 months. *sigh* Medication for 10 days. Luckily his type of ear infection isn't contagious ...

Swimming in the winter

Tyler is still taking swimming lessons. But don't worry, the pool is in doors and the water is heated.

Shopping cart and food

Thanks to santa and Grandma Jenny, Tyler has a shopping cart full of food toys. He loves taking them out of the cart and putting them back. He will push the cart around once in a while. And he is known to try and eat the food. :)

Lunch in San Francisco (at the Wharf)

After the aquarium, we went to Fishermen's Wharf for lunch. Tyler didn't eat any food for the restaurant, so luckily we still packed his "food bag". He loves them bananas!

We took a stroll to see the Sea Lion's. Pictures to come shortly.

Steinhart Aquarium

We've had some very very nice weather recently and decided to take full advantage of it. This past Saturday, we took Tyler to the Steinhart Aquarium in the city. Here's a video of some fish and penguins.

Daddy took pictures, but still needs to get them uploaded.

Can you hear him?

Tyler loves to talk. Most of the time we can't understand what he says ... but on rare occasions certain things do sound like actual words. Here he is playing and babbling.

Another box

Another day, a different box. Fun fun fun!

More B-Ball

I'm glad we got him the basketball hoop. He loves to put anything and everything in it. Brad and I have fun playing with it as well. So far, I'm better at it! LOL

One of the cheapest toys!

If mommy knew a box would keep Tyler entertained, she would have let him played with them sooner. Here he is playing in one of the boxes from our Christmas presents.

16 month stats

Tyler's doctor's appointment went just as well mommy thought it would. He cried for about 75% of the time there. He got 4 vaccinations in 3 shots to the arm. 1 in his right and 2 in his left.

He weighed 21 lbs and 4 ozs and was 29.5 inches tall. Still in the lower 15% for his age, but that's fine. He still eats and drinks like a pig, so all is well.

16 months already

Time is flying by faster and faster! Tyler is already 16 months. He still has yet to get his shots for his 15 month check up, lol. He was sick during that appointment and only now is he well and ready. Mommy will be taking him in this Wednesday.

Here are some random pictures of Tyler at 15 months.

Visiting Evan

We went to visit Evan this past Friday. Tyler had fun playing with all of his toys too! He was even able to put the ball into the basketball hoop for the first time! Way to go Tyler! Now you can play with the one we have at home. :)

New Year's Day 2009!

We went to Haylie's house for lunch on New Year's Day. Tyler had fun playing with Haylie and all of her toys.

Daddy's shoulders

Brad can't wait till Tyler can hold on by himself! Here we are at Target.
